Dr. Douglas Keenan, Minister of Pastoral Care
Doug and his wife Deb have been associated with FBC since their college days in the late 1970's. The congregation helped support them as Doug was completing his Masters of Religious Education seminary degree and while they were missionaries in Iowa.
The Keenan's returned to Austin in 1988 and Doug soon completed Clinical Pastoral Education training to work as a chaplain. This area of specialization led to a new relationship with FBC seven years later when Doug began work part time visiting the hospitals and home bound members.
This involvement was expanded to fulltime in 1997 when he became Minister of Pastoral Care. His role continues to grow and now includes work with Benevolent ministries and oversight of Adult Education focusing primarily on Sunday School.
Doug's family has also grown over the years with his wife, Deb, now an elementary school music specialist in the public school system and a middle school choral director with FBC; daughter, Roxie, who is also an elementary school music specialist near Fort Worth; and son, Charles, who currrently lives in Austin after graduating from Texas Tech University.
Doug received a Doctor of Ministry degree from Truett Seminary in Waco in 2005 with a special emphasis on ministry to the postmodern generation.
