Leigh Jackson, Minister of Still Waters: A Spiritual Outpost

Leigh was born and raised in the metropolis of Sheridan, TX. She lived “in town” but still  had the opportunity to raise farm animals, learn how to drive on back roads with her Granny, flip hamburgers with her Aunt Jeanette at the Sheridan Dariy D-Lite (still keeps up her skills on weekend visits), and she can still recite the 4-H club motto! She is the daughter of Carmen and Ray Lee and the sister of Christopher. After working as the Director of Community Ministries for the FBC Waco/Buckner partnership and 2 years of Clinical Pastoral Education with the Seton Healthcare Network, Leigh is now on the great adventure of expanding the ministry of Still Waters: A Spiritual Outpost.

Leigh first visited FBC Austin during her time as a social work intern working with Suzii Paynter at the Christian Life Commission. During that time FBC helped support her by participating in her research project… and now they are lending their support and encouragement in the endeavor of creating a place where contemplative life and caring for creation come together at Still Waters.

Leigh loves being outdoors and getting her hands dirty! Her work at Still Waters is allowing her to learn about gardening, land management, and a host of other things she had no idea she would spend her days doing! In the process she is also learning more about what it means to be still and see God’s love and fingerprints in the smallest details of the world around her. Leigh enjoys live music, dancing (don’t tell the other Baptists!), taking walks with her dog Skylar, snow cones, and sitting on her porch with a good cup of coffee and book. You can also find her rowing on Lady Bird Lake several mornings a week.

Leigh received a BS in Biology and Christianity from Houston Baptist University, a Masters of Social Work from Baylor University, and a Masters of Divinity from Baylor University’s Truett Seminary. She was ordained to the ministry by FBC Austin in February of 2007.
