Dorothy Strickland, Minister to Children and their Families
Dorothy and her husband, Robert, have been members of FBC Austin since 1981. Their two adult children grew up participating in the children's, youth and college ministries at FBC.
Dorothy has expressed her passion for teaching children about God's love all her adult life. Working with the three previous FBC children's ministers, Dorothy served in various volunteer capacities in the children's and preschool divisions. She worked as a Sunday School teacher and director for 18 years and as a missions teacher and director (Girls in Action) for 20 years. She has made many trips with children to summer camps as a counselor.
In her activities as a member of FBC, Dorothy has had the opportunity to serve on various FBC committees including the Christian Education and Children's committees as both member and chair. In January, 2000, Dorothy was ordained as a deacon. She began serving as the Interim Minister to Children and Their Families in the fall of 2001.
Before joining the FBC staff, Dorothy worked as an English as a Second Language instructor at Austin Community College. Before returning to college in 1996 to earn her elementary teacher certification, Dorothy worked as a stay-at-home mom. She also has a B.Sci. degree in Drafting and Design Technology, a field where she has work experience as an engineering drafter and drafting supervisor.
